There was a great quote earlier this week from Lansing political veteran Bill Ballenger in a Grand Rapids Press story about school millage approvals in West Michigan on Tuesday.
Ballenger said the results might be instructive for state legislators, many of whom are "scared to death" of proposing any kind of tax increase.
"Apparently, the voters are saying, 'Maybe that's what you think. It's not what we think.'"
I wonder if Sen. Mike Bishop and his colleagues are listenening? Probably not, given he’s firm in his Nancy Reagan-esque “Just Say No” stance on anything related to fixing our state’s antiquated tax structure and broken school funding system.
If Lansing politicians don’t take note of Tuesday’s election victories for local school funding efforts, they’ll pay for it when voters head to the polls in November. Because voters have clearly had enough of the cuts-only approach that's dominated the past decade – especially according to a recent poll by EPIC-MRA.
