Who's right for Michigan and public school employees?

As Democratic and Republican activists attend their respective party conventions this weekend, the distinctions between the two men at the top of the tickets is obvious.

So, who's right for Michigan and public school employees? You choose!

Here's the 411 on Rick Snyder:

  • He's responsible for outsourcing 19,000 jobs to China while serving on the board of Gateway, Inc.
  • Big business and corporate donors fund his campaign.
  • To improve education, he will look to merit pay and the private sector.
  • He doesn't have a specific plan to "reinvent Michigan" or any real experience to develop one.

Meanwhile, Virg Bernero:

  • Opposes the outsourcing of public school employees' jobs to private companies.
  • Respects the rights of workers to bargain collectively for wages and benefits.
  • Will join our fight to secure adequate, stable, and equitable funding for public education.
  • Has the plan to turn around Michigan’s economy and the proven experience to accomplish it.

Bernero is recommended by MEA in the gubernatorial race. MEA members are meeting with other candidates running in the Nov. 2 election and we'll soon have a complete list of recommended candidates for many other races, so stay tuned.
