Saving Education

Last week there was a large rally in Lansing. Parents, teachers, students and everyday citizens came from across the state to send one message to our legislative leaders - Save Our Schools. It's a message that shouldn't need to be shouted from the rooftops and Capitol grounds, but given the drastic cuts made by the Legislature, apparently it can't be said often enough.

As the holidays draw near, schools in Michigan are typically more concerned with snow days and holiday break plans. Given the latest antics of our government leaders, most schools are instead worrying about mid-year layoffs, increasing class sizes, and cutting non-core programs like music and physical education, leaving our children, and our future the true victims.

It's great to see rally like the one last week. Hopefully it won't take too many more before the message sinks in that education really does need saving.
