One more day...
Till the end of the ads!
Till the robocalls stop!
And, most importantly, till voters decide who will lead our state out of this economic nightmare!
For Michigan – and Michigan’s public schools – to succeed, we need strong leadership from the elected officials who will be chosen tomorrow. Make your voice heard in support of MEA-recommended candidates who will make public education a top priority – PLEASE VOTE tomorrow. The stakes couldn’t be higher...
• Virg Bernero understands the education is economic development – and that strong public schools are the best way to ensure we attract great new jobs to our state.
• Our State House and Senate will be essential partners in forging good public policies and adequate, equitable, stable education budgets – not to mention their important role in redistricting next year.
• Secretary of State candidate Jocelyn Benson wants to ensure fair elections where all voices are heard – a core principle of American democracy that public schools embrace every day.
• Attorney General hopeful David Leyton knows that strong public schools are critical to keeping our streets safe from violent crime – and that Michigan is better off spending money on early childhood education than prisons.
• Michigan’s congressional delegation knows the important role the federal government plays in public education, such as the critical federal “EduJobs” funding that will help keep thousands of Michigan educators on the job, working with students.
• Michigan’s Supreme Court makes important rulings on public education and workers rights – and having MEA-recommended candidates Alton Thomas Davis and Denise Langford Morris on the bench will help ensure the rights of Michigan’s students and public school employees are protected.
• One of our own, retired Grand Rapids EA member Lupe Ramos Montigny, is vying for a seat on the State Board of Education – help her and our other state education board candidates be the voices of public education in Lansing and at our great public universities.
• Please vote NO on Proposal 1. We don’t need an expensive, long-winded Constitutional Convention to fix the problems our state faces – we need leadership from the great candidates we talk about above.
• And finally, what happens in Washington and Lansing is critically important – but it’s the decisions closest to home that often matter the most to us. So, please, be sure to vote in the county, municipal and school races on your ballot!
