Both my parents worked in public schools, my father as a teacher and my mother as a secretary. They instilled in me a strong belief in the public schools. They inspired me to become a teacher and I believe the schools need more resources and less meddling from Lansing.

Quality public education is a fundamental right of all school age children. It must involve parents, educators and the community in providing the necessary curriculum, educational experiences and financial support.

Public Education is the bedrock in American society and is paramount to the future success of Michigan. I support adequate funding for our public schools in the state so that our children are prepared to succeed on the collegiate level.

We must protect and preserve and improve public education in Michigan. Public education is quality education. When funding for K-12 is cut, Michigan hurts itself. I pledge my support for teachers, support professionals, administrators, students and parents.

All children should be educated in a manner allowing them to compete in a global job market. Public education is important for the advancement of society and should be available for all students. Public dollars spent on charters diminishes access.
